Physiotherapy Treatments

With more moving parts than any machine, it’s not surprising your body occasionally cries out in pain or refuses to do what you tell it to do. Physiotherapy has been long acknowledged by the medical profession as the safe, effective treatment of injury and disease by enhancing the body’s natural healing processes (Chartered Society of Physiotherapists)

Whether you are young or old, active or taking it easy, there’s a strong chance you could benefit from Physiotherapy at some point. Half of us for instance, will suffer from back pain at some stage in our lives.

Your Physiotherapist will explain the assessment process and results in detail then outline a proposed treatment plan to meet common goals. Treatment options may include but are not limited to:

  1. Manual Therapy: Manual Therapy techniques are specialized hands-on skills consisting of joint mobilizations and manipulations as well as soft-tissue techniques (including massage) designed to decrease pain, restore movement and improve function.

  2. Mechanical and Electrical Modalities: Physiotherapists may use different modalities for pain relief, muscle spasm, inflammation and swelling, wound healing, increasing movement and strength. Examples of modalities include Hot and Cold Interventions, Cervical and Lumbar Traction, Ultrasound, Transcutaneous Nerve Stimulation (TNS) and Interferential therapy.

  3. Exercise: Exercise is usually a core component of most physiotherapy treatment plans. An exercise program may consist of stretching, strengthening and aerobic conditioning. Exercises are designed to improve mobility, stability, flexibility and control. The exercises are progressed and customized to each individual's condition and the specific goals for recovery.

  4. Education: All patients are provided education regarding their condition as well as important information and strategies to assist in self-management and prevention of further injury.
